It's All About Who You Know

It's All About Who You Know

For the longest time this statement bothered me, especially through my college career because my classmates and I would discuss that we could be the best preachers and evangelists out there but without the right connections we wouldn’t get a job. It doesn’t matter in what kind of industry you work or study, you must know people in order to get the good gigs, promotions, be employed, etc.

Recently, I was discussing the same matter with a pastor, and he said, “You’ve got it wrong. This is a biblical principle:
"Getting into heaven is NOT a matter of WHAT you know but WHO you know.”

This made me see things from a holistic perspective: Our job, opportunities studies, family, interests, career, dreams and goals do not depend on who we know here on earth but WHO we know in heaven. If we ally our selves with God then He will work and open doors of opportunities that we’ve never imagined. This new perspective teaches us to depend less in our selves and more on God, and developing a relationship with Jesus so we can KNOW him.

This morning I read a short poem from sister Maria Gloria Flores, member of the Highland Hills
SDA Church in San Antonio, TX. Through this poem I was reminded, once again, that is not about what we do and know but rather who we know.

“I see you walking through the church aisle and at everyone you smile. You greet everyone kindly followed by an embrace but please remember I can see right through your face.

You and those who practically live in my church, and others, who quote many scriptures, beware because in the book of life I don’t see your pictures. Knowledgeable of the Bible you are but in your heart I see a great scar.

Don’t talk about the work you do in my church or the education you have, act on the people’s behalf. Worry about your submissions to me, and not your positions for me. To have and share your love with others is what I ask but, this to you, is an undesirable task.

I am talking to you. You are very nice indeed but I see no fruit in thy seed. Your actions speak louder than words because your tongue is a two bladed sword!

Please change before it’s too late, I am closing my heavenly gate.”

May this short devotional trigger you to evaluate your relationship & dependence on God.

Blessings!
